Position Overview
The University of Calgary in Qatar (UCQ) is currently seeking an Advisor, Human Resources. The Human Resource Advisor supports the University of Calgary in Qatar (UCQ) through the provision of human resource expertise and advice. The position facilitates the faculty's achievement of their operational goals and objectives in alignment with the Academic Plan.
Reporting to the Director, Human Resources at UCQ, the Human Resources Advisor provides senior level support to the faculty's Canadian and Local employees and the senior leadership group.
The successful applicants ideally would be able to relocate to Doha, Qatar in early or mid January 2020. This is a 2-year contract renewable upon mutual agreement.
Position Description
The Advisor, Human Resources provides operational Human Resources services and generalist consulting services to support the values and strategic direction of UCQ.
Under the direction of the Director, Human Resources, and working collaboratively with the UCQ HR team and main campus HR specialists, this role advises, coordinates and administers the operational aspects of human resources processes within UCQ, especially within assigned portfolio (Academic, Local hire and/or Canadian hire, and Support Staff and MaPs), and ensures these processes are effectively planned, coordinated and communicated across the UCQ. This position makes recommendations regarding the development of policies, processes and systems that reflect and support the international environment of this faculty.
Provides consistent advice to clients on a range of human resources functions which may include On-boarding, Employee Relations for Canadian and Qatari laws and jurisdictions, Workplace Wellness, Talent Management (Attraction and Retention, Organizational Effectiveness, Learning and Development), Total Rewards (Compensation and Recognition, and Workforce Planning and Analytics).
Qualifications Requirement:
University graduation in a related field plus minimum of 3 years related experience in a human resources generalist role, preferably gained in an international and/or academic work environment
CPHR or equivalent designation an asset
Knowledge of applicable human resource legislation, policies and practices
Knowledge of best practices in human resources areas such as Employee Relations, Talent Management and Organizational Development, Compensation and Total Rewards, Staff Wellness
Familiarity with PeopleSoft will be an advantage
Ability to work independently in a fast paced, constantly changing environment, using good judgment, tact and diplomacy in handling multiple simultaneous priorities with positive outcomes
